Some people end up having regrets in life, for example;

I wish I had let myself be happier.

I wish I dared to express my feelings.

I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.

I wish I had stayed in touch with friends.

I wish I dared to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me, e.t.c.

Below are some things you should do to avoid regrets later in life.

  • Be generous to others in terms of your time or other resources.
  • Practice gratitude and appreciation daily.
  • Try things, and don’t give up easily.
  • Be responsible in everything you do.
  • Listen to your heart more than your head.
  • Don’t blame your parents or government for your failure.
  • Learn how to save for investment and retirement purposes.
  • Laugh and smile more.
  • Don’t believe everything. Ask questions and challenge the status quo.
  • Delay gratification. Don’t buy things because everyone is doing so.
  • Learn every day. Don’t think you are educated because you have degrees.
  • Don’t fall in love because of love alone. Think about values and compatibility.

There’s no universal approach to making better decisions, but there are practices that have worked for others and personal lessons learned. Combine both to arrive at your unique decision-making model. You can’t make perfect decisions, but you can make better decisions to reduce regrets later in life.

Don’t spend too much time worrying about the consequences of your actions because that could cause indecision and overthinking. In the end, an indecisive life is not worth living.
